The Cowichan Valley Wrestling Club had a fantastic showing at the Island Novice Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, November 30th, hosted at John Barsby Secondary. This event, designed for first- and second-year wrestlers, offered a platform for young athletes to showcase their skills and determination—and they did not disappoint.
Our wrestlers competed with grit and heart, delivering impressive performances throughout the day. Among the highlights were Elijah Ludlow (Quw’utsun), Lucy Healey (QMS), Amellia Korchinski (QMS), Lidia Martinez (Quamichan), Emily Ingram-Reid (Quamichan), and Anthony Grobbelaar (Brentwood), who all went undefeated to claim gold medals in their respective divisions.
In the team standings, Queen Margaret’s School (QMS) placed fourth, Quamichan School earned sixth, Brentwood College School secured ninth, and Frances Kelsey Secondary School finished 20th out of 25 competing schools. This solid performance highlights the growing strength of wrestling in the Cowichan Valley.
